Winter and Fruit Mix Pocky

Fruit Mix and Winter Pocky

This fall, Glico has released two special flavors of Pocky, and while they’re about as different as different can be, I’m going to review then together.

Winter Pocky

The first is the so-called Fuyu no Kuchidoke (Winter with fine cocoa dust) Pocky, which follows Dessert Pocky in offering a much thicker pretzel stick dipped in high quality chocolate. It also has a light dusting, akin to much of the fudge in japan this time of year. Disappointingly, Winter Pocky comes in a smaller quantity than normal. You’ll have to settle for twenty-four sticks in four packs, for an increased price as well. But considering that the chocolate is so good, Winter Pocky is well worth the cost. Buy it while you can. 5/5

Fruit Mix Pocky

The second special edition is the really quite odd Fruit Mix Pocky, which has a companion snack in Vegetable Pretz. (This is Pocky Watch, not Pretz Watch, so here we are. Maybe a later review.) Fruit Pocky has the same thicker pretzel, but instead of chocolate, an orange-striped pale yellow exterior. Glico throws eleven distinct fruit flavors into the pot, and I won’t say that when I first bit in, I wasn’t a tad perturbed. But I actually started warming up to them. The strongest flavor is certainly the banana, but it’s not a bad fake banana, and the other flavors come through as well. I can’t say this is my favorite Pocky—far from it—but if you’re intrigued, pick up a box while it lasts. 3/5
